Gua Sha, Explained
Gua sha has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. The modern beauty version uses a smooth stone — jade, rose quartz, or obsidian — to massage the face, boost circulation and reduce puffiness.
Why the stone matters
- Jade: the classic — cooling, calming, great for sensitive skin
- Rose quartz: the self-love favourite — gentle and soothing
- Obsidian: stays coolest, best for de-puffing in the morning
The 5-minute routine
- Start with a few drops of facial oil or serum — never drag on dry skin
- Work from the centre of the face outward: jawline, cheeks, under eyes
- Use light, sweeping strokes — gua sha should never hurt
- Finish at the neck, sweeping downward toward the collarbone
- Clean your stone with warm water and mild soap after each use
